Job Description

My client, a global supply chain and logistics organisation, is looking for a Business Development Manager to join their team. You will be required to develop, execute, coordinate and be accountable for the Distribution sales strategy in alignment with the company’s strategic direction.

 

Duties:

  • Ensure personal new business sales targets are achieved
  • Vertical industry development, tender management, key account management
  • Leverage of strengths: BEE status/partners, rail, international networks and relationships
  • Identify and prospect new business sales targets
  • Manage sales and after sales performance of individuals and teams
  • Responsible for efficient and effective coordination between sales and other departments
    • E.g. Managing inter-department and in-house functions with operations
  • Key account management
    • Implement and manage SOPs and SLAs and monthly performance reviews
    • Incl. managing customer relations, customer liaison, incident notification and new procedure implementations
  • HR issues: training, performance appraisals, corrective action etc
  • Skill level development
  • Conferences, both sales and regional
  • Managing incentive scheme: Sales, trade lane, servicing, key account management etc
  • Promotional and marketing material: Web, presentations, proposals
  • Admin: Management reports, sales figures, targets and performance management
  • External climate survey
  • Risk awareness: Security, losses, damages and claims (procedures and reports)
  • Financial awareness: Branch revenue and expenses to ensure budget is achieved

 

Requirements:

  • Successful new business sales track record
  • Proven track record in leading a sales team or teams
  • Keen awareness and knowledge of competition
  • An intimate understanding of all the products, and able to uncover and satisfy market needs
  • Able to contribute to the company by having established business networks
  • Able to establish and maintain sound co-operative business and interpersonal relationships
  • Minimum 5yrs experience managing a distribution network
  • Minimum 5yrs experience in a wholesale courier environment
  • Minimum 5yrs experience in FTL and LTL brokering environment
  • Clear understanding of transport networks
  • Able to design and execute Distribution sales strategy
  • Able to thrive in a matrix structure
  • Must be able to collaborate with employees to develop team goals and resolve issues
  • Able to function at all levels – from senior executives to most junior staff
  • IT experience in CRM, freight management programs and RFMS
  • Parcel Perfect mastery experience advantageous
